What is Ocean Freight Service?

Ocean Freight involves shipping cargo by sea, which is an ideal choice when transporting goods from Guam to other U.S. cities or international destinations, or when receiving shipments from elsewhere to Guam. This method is particularly cost-effective for large or heavy shipments compared to air transport. However, it’s important to keep in mind that while Ocean Freight can save money, it generally takes longer to deliver than air freight.

Basics of Ocean Freight

When using Ocean Freight, you might encounter unfamiliar terms. Let’s go over some basic concepts that will help you better understand the process.hoose our Ocean Freight services for cost-effective, reliable shipping that brings your goods to the world!

Basics of Ocean Freight 01.

Using Containers for Shipping

When shipping cargo by sea, customer-requested items are loaded into containers. For smaller shipments, costs are determined by the amount of space the cargo occupies. For larger shipments, you can rent an entire container to accommodate all your goods.

Types of Containers

There are several types of containers, including 20ft containers, 40ft containers, and 40ft high cube containers. The most commonly used containers are the 20ft and 40ft containers.

Understanding FCL and LCL in Ocean Freight

When utilizing container services, there are two main options: Full Container Load (FCL) and Less than Container Load (LCL).
Basic of FCL / LCL 01.
What is FCL?
FCL stands for Full Container Load, meaning the customer utilizes the entire space of a container for their shipment. This method involves transporting goods in either a 20-foot or 40-foot container, with the cost determined by the container size.

When to use FCL?
If you have a large volume of goods, heavy items, or shipments that occupy significant space, FCL might be the best option for you.

What is LCL?
LCL, or Less Than Container Load, is a shipping method where multiple customers share space within a single container. This approach allows you to pay only for the portion of the container your goods occupy, making it a cost-effective solution for smaller shipments. By sharing container space, you reduce shipping costs while still getting your goods delivered efficiently.

When to use LCL?
For smaller shipments, LCL (Less than Container Load) can be a more economical choice. Keep in mind, though, that LCL cargo is combined with other shipments, which may lead to longer customs processing times and a higher risk of damage compared to FCL (Full Container Load).

How We Estimate Container Shipping Costs

When sending goods by container, the estimate is based on the space your items occupy and their weight. We check the CBM (Cubic Meter), which measures the volume of the items packed in the container. CBM is a crucial factor in determining shipping costs.
How to Calculate CBM
To calculate CBM (Cubic Meter), you need to measure the length, width, and height of the item in meters (m). Multiply these three dimensions together to get the CBM.

To complete your export, you’ll need two key documents: an Invoice and a Packing List.

The Invoice includes details such as the product name, unit price, total price, trade terms, and sender and receiver information. The Packing List provides specifics on the dimensions, quantity, net weight, gross weight, and volume of the items.
